“Untapped Potential” of Commercial Buildings could provide Renewable Energy for Farmers

Writer: Sarah PatersonSarah Paterson

Renewable energy for farmers could be generated from solar installations on existing buildings already utilized within the farming business. Many farm businesses have buildings with large roof areas which may be suitable for solar panel installation. Farmers are experiencing the increased cost of electricity due to the energy crisis prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Enterprises such as dairy, indoor pigs and poultry are high consumers of electricity. Enterprise managers have invested in roof top solar to provide renewable energy for farmers to reduce the need to import electricity and therefore reduce the cost of imported electricity.

Solar Energy UK is an established trade association for companies involved in the solar industry. Follow the link to this article specifically highlighting the opportunities to install solar on commercial sites such as farms. Many farm businesses have the infrastructure in place with existing building to install rooftop solar and provide renewable energy for farmers.
